Part II Steps to stop worry

Part II
Step 1:  Think about the negative thoughts that you uncovered and ask yourself the following questions:  continued in the next post.
a.  “What is this thought about?”
b.  “Where is this feeling coming from?”
c.  “What am I trying to accomplish by having these thoughts?”
Be curious about comes to mind as you ask these questions.

Note: For this exercise stay away from questions that start with the word “why” because the “why” question will just lead to conscious answers, and not really be helpful for this exercise.   How you phrase the question is very important in getting answers from you unconscious mind.

Once you have a list of the negative thoughts/stories and you have an idea of what is behind the thoughts, you are ready for the next most important step.

Step 3: Write down two possible positive thoughts or possible positive outcomes for each negative thought you have written down.  The answers to the questions you asked yourself might be of help in forming new more positive thoughts.  You will use these in the last step to replace each negative thought.

What if I really believe that the thoughts I have might come true in the future, is there anything I can do about that?

Both the positive and negative thoughts you create about possible future events are fictional.  The problem with negative thoughts and pictures you create in your mind is that even though they possibly will never happen, the unconscious mind nevertheless accepts them as if they are true.  And you react with fear in the present moment to something that hasn’t even happened.

In just the same way, when you create positive thoughts, the unconscious mind also accepts them as true, creating a very different and more pleasant reaction in the body.

Looking for positive thoughts that can be equally true as the negative ones is a very important step as you begin the process of reprogramming your mind for what you want instead of what you don’t want.
