Are Your Genes Causing Anxiety?

If you think that they you are stuck with unwanted reactions because of your genetic makeup,   let me tell you this is not true.

There has been a long standing debate over whether our behavior is caused by environmental factors such as family, schooling, nutrition or hereditary factors, our genetic makeup. This is called the nature vs nurture issue.  Some believe that personality is determined by genes inherited from our ancestors, much the same way our eye color or body shape is. They say that personality traits that best aided in our ancestors survival were the ones that prevailed and were passed down to future generations.

One reason a person might have a highly function panic reaction is because  they had an ancestor with had a good flight / fight response that alerted them to quickly react in the face of danger.  You are the successor of those hereditary traits.

There are some things that are genetically passed down to you, and this genetic code at times might cause you to react in a way that doesn’t feel good, or that you wish was different.   Personality traits that best aided in our ancestors survival were the ones that prevailed and were passed down to future generations.

Although it is true that some of your personality and emotional reactions come from your genetic data, it doesn’t mean that you are stuck with them or than they can’t be changed.

How cool? Some of you might feel relieved by this news. Some of you might be confused; if my genes responsible for my emotions how can it be changed?  Well, lets talk.

This brings me to my point, sometimes we respond in certain ways and don’t really understand where our actions are stemming from. Sometimes events take place and our innate and initial reactions are confusing to us because we don’t understand why we are responding so – angrily, recklessly, irrationally, etc.

Well, here are some tips:

1.  Don’t freak out. Remember that those seemingly explainable reactions are coming from somewhere. You are not crazy.
2.  You can absolutely tap into and change those responses.
3.  There are specific hypnotic tips and techniques, you can use to rewire the programming in your brain.  Knowing how to talk the language of the unconscious mind give us a way to reprogram reactions to  ones that are more beneficial and healthy for you and your loved ones. The genetic code does not have to be activated if you do not want them to.
4.  Use this to your advantage. Our genes interact with our environment. It is impossible to separate our genetically inherited traits from our environment – nature from nurture or vise versa. Although, some genes are linked to personality characteristics, they are not solely responsible for your personality. Use your environment to enhance the good traits and expel the bad ones.

Hypnotherapy gives us a way to tap into the unconscious/subconscious.  It gives us the ability to take control of traits that seem uncontrollable m like anxiety, panic, being nervous or a worrier. Just because dad might have passed down his stubborn ways or mom her shyness, does not mean you are doomed to those traits.

Whether it’s coming from your subconscious, your surroundings or your genetic material, your emotions are stemming from somewhere. That being said, no matter how stuck they may seem, there is hope.  If you want to learn more about ways to control of your innate emotional reactions check out the mind opening hypnotic exercise.
